Modern Dushanbe ironically is an ancient city with great historical

heritage and at the same time it is rather young (it is 90 years old).

Dushanbe is the political, economic, cultural and administrative centre – the capital of Tajikistan, modern and brimming with lush green vegetation. Dushanbe (until 1961 was called Stalinabad) is located in the centre of the Gissar valley at an altitude of more than 800 meters above the sea level. From the North and East, it is surrounded by foothills, crowned with snow-white caps of the Gissar range. The Gissar range reaches from both sides of Varzob River (within the boundaries of the city called Dushanbe). There are some 120 glaciers in the upper part of the Varzob river basin creating a favorable microclimate in the mountain gorges and in outskirts of Dushanbe. The Varzob River generously grants drinking water and irrigates neighboring orchards and fields. And the picturesque mountain gorge offers a place for recreation and a comfortable base where guests from all parts of the world come to explore and relax.
Due to the closeness of the mountains, the inhabitants of the capital can feel a light breeze and evening freshness in the hot periods of the summers. There is a distinctly continental climate in Dushanbe with arid and hot summers and humid cool winters. The most beautiful time of year is the warm and dry autumn – time for harvesting.

The Culture and Recreation Park named after Sadriddin Ayni is a park in the northern part of Dushanbe, Tajikistan. It is located on the northern outskirts of Ismoil Somoni district of Dushanbe. The park is located along Rudaki Avenue in its northern part. The main avenue of the park leads to the round section, from where the longitudinal alley begins, which opens to the second entrance. In the park, there are terraces, gazebos, teahouse, small architectural forms, and elements of park design, fountain and more. In the park are planted various trees, vineyards, bushes, and flowers. In the center of the park on the main avenue, a memorial was built in honor of the famous people of the republic. The alley ends with the mausoleum of Sadriddin Aini, erected over his grave in 1958-1960.

The flagpole of the Republic of Tajikistan

The official opening of the flagpole took place on August 30, 2011 and was timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of independence of the republic of Tajikistan, which will be celebrated on September 9. The flagpole, built in Tajikistan, entered the Guinness Book of Records as the highest flagpole in the world, and was that until September 2014. The corresponding certificate was presented to the President of Tajikistan by the representative of the Guinness Book of Records. The height of the flagpole was 165 m. The flag area is 1800 m, the width is 30 m, the length is 60 m, and the weight is 420 kg.

The new building of the National Library of Tajikistan was opened on March 20, 2012 in Dushanbe with the participation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.

The new nine-story building is constructed in the form of an open book and meets modern international standards (building length 167 m, height 52 m, total area 45 thousand square meters. By its size it is the largest library in the countries of Central Asia. Near the central facade of the building are 22 busts of famous heroes of the history of the region, scientists and writers of the Tajik people. The library has 25 reading rooms, which have 274 automated workplaces for readers, 3 exhibition halls: for displaying ancient manuscripts and rare books; galleries for the exhibition of books on the branches of science and knowledge; exhibition hall of new literature; For carrying out of mass actions, conferences and symposiums the library has 9 premises. An electronic catalog, an electronic library was created, access to library resources was ensured, and other innovative projects were implemented that raised the service to a qualitatively new level. Kokhi Navruz

Initially, the complex «Kokhi Navruz» (Navruz Palace) was planned as a chaikhana, but during the construction, it turned into a real palace. In the «Kohi Navruz» — 12 unusual halls, each of which is made in its own special style. The complex has an art room, a banquet hall, a stone hall with carved decoration, a plaster hall with mirrors, two VIP halls. At the same time, it is ready to receive 3 thousand 200 guests. All rooms of the palace are decorated by local masters-craftsmen: there is wood carving, and Florentine mosaic from local semiprecious stones, mosaic of colored mirrors, painted ceilings.
