New Mosque

President Emomali Rahmonov started construction of the largest mosque in Central Asia near the center of Dushanbe in October 2011.

The project cost is 100 million dollars, 70 percent of which is financed by Qatar, and the rest — by Tajikistan. The mosque can accommodate up to 115,000 believers. After completion, Tajikistan will become the owner of the largest mosque in Central Asia, overshadowing the Turkmenbashi mosque in neighboring Turkmenistan, which can accommodate 10,000 people. By the end of 2018 the mosque will be ready, which is a tremendous face-change for the capital of the country.
